Letting Someone Else Drive Your Car

Specialized transportation services

Restoring antique cars is all about freezing time. By recapturing the condition of a vehicle as it rolled off the factory floor, a restorer is taking a snapshot of a bygone era, a living imprint of a moment in history. Bringing a car back to that condition takes patience, expertise, and love. Keeping it in that condition sometimes takes a big truck.

Car shows are hugely popular events in the United States, a country that takes great pride in its automobiles, past and present. Antique car shows take place on virtually every day of the calendar, in every corner of the country. For the owner of a beautifully restored, vintage automobile, there are two choices. Either attend only local shows within a tight radius, or hire auto transport companies to get you there and back while keeping the miles off your odometer and the bugs off your windshield.

Sounds simple, right? But there are many factors to consider when deciding on antique car transport services.

  • When do you need to get there? Many companies can offer multi car transports, where more than one vehicle is on the carrier, but these types of transports can be significantly slower. Get your time estimates, and program in a little leeway just to be safe.

  • How many cars are you transporting? Nearly all antique car transport services can haul more than one car for you, but increased weight can mean increased cost and increased travel time. The cost of gas to transport a car from New Jersey to California is about $2,200. However, if showing more than one car may increase your chances of winning an award, that may help to offset the transportation costs.

  • What is the company track record? You will be trusting your baby to complete strangers. You need to know you can trust them, not simply to get the car (or cars) from here to there and back again, but also to properly secure the vehicle, to protect it from the elements, and to stick to their promised timeframe as closely as possible. Ask other owners for reviews to see what they think of the companies you are interested in.

You have worked long and hard to restore your car to the exact same condition as when it was brand new. Make sure your pride and joy gets there in the exact same condition as when it left your garage.

  1. I’ve only started showing my baby around at a few different car shows in nearby states, but I already recognize some of the regulars. I wonder what THOSE guys spend in transport costs…

  2. You can also invest in a trailer, so you can drive it to shows yourself. The gas might come out a little cheaper, and you’d sure be able to check on it whenever you wanted to.
